# Stablecoin

BRD is a BRL-denominated stablecoin, fully reserved by Brazilian Treasury LFTs, live on Solana, Ethereum and Base.

BRD is a stablecoin denominated in Brazilian reais. Each token is backed 1:1 by Brazilian Treasury LFTs held in reserve, and is redeemable for BRL by verified account holders.

## Reserves

BRD is reserved entirely in **LFTs**, short-duration Brazilian Treasury bonds. LFTs float with the policy rate, which is what makes them suitable as a reserve asset. A floating-rate instrument does not lose principal value when rates move the way a fixed-coupon bond does.

The bonds are registered and held directly at the Brazilian Central Bank. BRD Digital purchases them through a qualified bank, currently **Genial**, and the reserve sits in an account segregated from operating capital.

Brazilian tax treatment on these instruments is regressive with holding period. Positions held longer than 30 days attract a lower rate than short-dated ones.

## Networks

BRD is live on Solana, Ethereum and Base. The EVM deployments use deterministic addresses, so BRD carries the same address on Ethereum and Base.

The yield product has its own contract. See sBRD.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Always verify a contract address against this page or the dashboard before transacting. Never take an address from an email or a direct message.
{% endhint %}

## Use cases

**Yield.** Holding BRD gives exposure to Brazilian sovereign yield, currently around 14%, among the highest real yields available anywhere, without a Brazilian entity or a local bank account. See [Yield](/brd-digital-docs/yield.md).

**BRL-settled stablecoin cards.** Card programmes today settle in liquid USD stablecoins, which forces a currency mismatch on any issuer serving Brazilian spend. BRD makes BRL-settled card programmes possible.

**Lower-cost access to BRL.** On-chain settlement reaches Brazilian currency faster and more cheaply than correspondent banking, without local presence.

**FX.** BRD is the BRL leg of cross-border operations between reais and other currencies. See [Cross-border](/brd-digital-docs/cross-border.md).

## Composability

BRD is a token on public networks. It transfers wallet-to-wallet without BRD Digital in the loop, is held in standard custody tooling, trades on public liquidity pools, and composes with DeFi protocols. Total supply is readable on-chain by anyone.

What runs through BRD Digital is the **fiat edge**: minting with fiat, and redeeming to a bank account. Both require verification.

* Redemption, converting BRD back to BRL.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://brd-digital.gitbook.io/brd-digital-docs/stablecoin.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
